Celebrate space exploration and technology at Worcester on the Moon event, Saturday 7/20!

Join our city as we celebrate 100 years of space exploration and technology with Worcester on the Moon! On Saturday, July 20th, Worcester will showcase its historic and existing innovation with a series of events and exhibits. See the event map here!

Worcester is home to innovation and manufacturing that moved the needle in extra-planetary exploration. The first rocket was launched in Auburn and was developed in Worcester. Apollo 11 moon landing technology, including the suits astronauts wore, and the headset Neil Armstrong used to communicate with Earth, were made in Worcester.

Worcester Historical Museum
A special curation of moon landing technology from David Clark Company, and rocket relics from the “Father of Modern Rocketry” Robert H. Goddard. In partnership with Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Worcester Pop Up Gallery

3D planetary banners, cutting edge laser technology, automated instruments, and space themed activities, art and food. Learn to launch rockets and create tiny-scale model solar systems to take home in your pocket! Pop into the Pop Up! 20 Franklin St. Provided by Technocopia, The Food Hub, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Aldrich Astronomical Society, The EcoTarium, The Wonder Mission, Art Reach, Sisters in Stitches, and several local artists.

City Hall Common

Family friendly rocket launches, paint tables, and games of catch. Use kitchen chemistry to launch canisters high in the sky and get hands-on with stomp rockets! Find us on the green space along Franklin St. In partnership with the EcoTarium, the Worcester Bravehearts and the Creative Hub. The 501st Legion, a Star-Wars costuming group, will also be visiting our downtown!

Technocopia is an exciting multi-generational maker space. Its resources include a wood shop, metal shop, glass shop, digital fabrication lab, design studio, textile studio, and computer lab. Tours and demonstrations ongoing throughout the day.

Clark University – Robert H. Goddard Library

On public display, rare relics that highlight Robert H. Goddard’s experimentation and research in rocketry. The display includes excerpts from Dr. Goddard’s diaries, notebooks and test reports, many photographs, selected pieces of rockets, and related hardware. It also includes examples of awards presented posthumously to Dr. Goddard. On special display, will be Goddard’s 12 foot launch frame, the one that was used in the historic first ever successful liquid fuel rocket launch.

Bravehearts Baseball Game
Join Worcester’s home baseball team, The Worcester Bravehearts, for an exciting space themed event with an end of game fireworks display! Tickets required. Game starts at 7:00pm. At the game, Art Reach will be providing telescope viewing activities and make and take galaxy tiles.
