This is the first in a series of four informational, panel-style discussions presented by veteran homeschoolers of different educational styles. Panelists will present their personal journeys and expertise and offer an opportunity to explore difficulties, successes, and reflections . There will be plenty of time to answer questions in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Kids are welcome! We’ll provide free babysitting for children 6 and up. Nursing moms and parents with young children are welcome to join us in the classroom. Third Friday of each month. 4 pm to 7 pm.
February 21: Led by Beth Fleming and Sid Nordstrom
There are many choices when it comes to educating our children. For those of us who have chosen to leave the well-trodden path, the choices and responsibilities can be overwhelming. Our first homeschool panel will focus on the initial decision making behind becoming homeschoolers. Please join us to watch and discuss the popular Homeschool movie: Class Dismissed.
Class Dismissed shares the story of how one American family took their children out of the public school system in search of a learning experience better suited to their unique interests and goals. The film gives a candid portrayal of how the family explores alternatives to the public school system, including deschooling, charter schools, mentoring, and classical conversations, among other homeschooling approaches
Our two panelists and homeschooling friends: One a passionate unschooler and one a structured classical education advocate will share their experiences, hard-won lessons, and resources.
Is it really possible to provide a nurturing and educationally rich experience for children outside the school system? Let’s find out together!
